When someone leaves a position, rarely are they leaving with a completely cleared out INBOX. Things are in progress; DECISIONS are in progress—perhaps major ones.

No one has a better view than the span of decisions affecting a work role than its incumbent. No one is in a better position to outline pending decisions for the short, mid-range, and longer term. Even a departing employee’s manager might not be aware of the full plate!

Of course, any decision list is subject to reframing and re-prioritizing, but for the successor (as well as the team staying on), the summary created in this tool is invaluable as a starting point.

DECISIONS IN PROGRESS includes short worksheets for major decisions with space to complete personal comments. Completing the tool with several colleagues staying in their roles is also an excellent handoff activity.
